Following Juconiīs success in Mexico, the organisation was invited to establish another Project for srteet children in Latin America. A detailed needs analysis identified Ecuadorīs second city, Guayaquil, as an area of extreme poverty with high numbers of street-involved children.

Juconi Ecuador was founded in 1995 under the auspices of the International Children's Trust and with support from the European Union and the British government.

Juconi has two UK partners - the International Childrenīs Trust and Chidren In Crisis - who work closely with us and kindly fund our work.

Juconi Mexico works in Puebla with 350 street-involved and high-risk children and their families each year. It has programmes for street-living, street-working and market-working children.

Although Juconi Mexico and Juconi Ecuador are independent organisations, we work together closely on matters such as:

  • Joint project implementation (including a joint, Big Lottery UK-funded project on improving the inclusiveness of local schools serving street-involved children)
  • Reciprocal training to help us identify the most effective project-management practices
  • Exchanges for field staff to give them more hands-on experience of different areas
  • Joint international advocacy to press for the implementation of childrenīs rights
